As Photowalkers we are blessed! We get to hang out with other photographers shooting areas we otherwise may never get to and then enjoy the experience together!
It’s important that we share our gifts with others. There is an event starting this coming week called “Charity Fest”. It’s where photographers have the ability to give back to their community by working to create or take part in a community affair or event that otherwise may never get good photography. It can be done individually or as a group. I am making a challenge to the group! What charity event can we get involved with that otherwise may go undocumented! Time is short so send your ideas now! Look forward to hearing from you all!
Do you have a link to Charity Fest so we can get more information on this event? TIA
I have to admit that this is new to me. I follow a great blog run by Skip Cohen who happens to be a heavy hitter in the photo world and also lives in Akron! He has written about it on his blog, here’s a link to it:

It’s my basic understanding that it’s a way to get us to start thinking about how we, as photographers, can give back to our community. It could be something that a person does on their own or it could be something that we as a group could undertake to do.
I am thowing the idea out there to see what, if any, interest can be generated so I’m thankful for your question. I hope this can take off and become something to do!
I’ve worked with the non-profit sector here in Akron for over 12 years. There would be many that might like to have access to photographers. I can definately ask around my contact base. If anyone has a specific interest they’d like to pursue, if I can put them in contact with someone from a local agency, I’d be happy to attempt to do that.
Bobbi,
Fantastic! I’m now learning more about this “Charity Fest”. Skip Cohen is looking for stories about projects that photographers are either doing or looking to do as a give back. It sounds like your position is a great stepping stone to things that can happen. I would love to have lunch with you sometime, maybe at the Lockview hangout to talk this over some more. Certainly would love input for others also.
Anytime Marc. I’m right downtown so Lockview is great. Name the time and we can make it happen. I’ve closed down my volunteer group but still have many contacts in that circle. As a matter of fact, I’m volunteering at the local Alzheimer’s Association gala on Friday night. I mentioned your idea to the Director and they would love to have someone come take photos during the event. He asked about cost and I took a wild assumptive leap and said no-charge or at cost (since this is for charity). I know it’s short notice but if anyone had an interest in doing this I can coordinate the effort. They would probably provide some food (eat with the other volunteers, deli tray), then hob-knob with the crowd and take pics. Their staff generally takes pictures, but he was very open to the opportunity to have someone else there. The event is in Fairlawn, so it’s close by. If anyone wants to be involved, please email to me at bjkrannich@yahoo.com.
